Almasdar renews call for the release of al-Mansouri and fellow journalists in Houthi detention
Almasdar’s Media Foundation has called for immediate release of the journalist Taufik al-Mansouri and other fellow journalists detained in jails of the Houthi militia.
In a press release issued to mark five hundred days since the Iran-backed militia kidnapped al-Mansouri and his eighth colleagues, the foundation demanded the release of the abductees in the militia’s jails as soon as possible.
"The continued detention of journalists, imposing restrictions on their freedom and subjecting them to torture are crimes on which should not be there statute of limitations”, it stated, adding, “the law gives victims the right to bring a lawsuit against the perpetrators who should be held accountable for crimes”.
Iran-facilitated Houthis launched a campaign of mass arrests against thousands of activists, party cadres, politicians and journalists, many of them are still in detention, after their militia with the support of forces loyal to ousted Ali Abdullah Saleh took over Yemen’s capital Sana'a and a number of other cities and seized complete control of state institutions on March 2015.
It also renewed demand for returning all equipment looted from the foundation’s headquarters in Sanaa when the militia carried out a raid on its office on March 26, 2015.
