The president of Yemeni students’ union Radwan Masoud was released on Saturday after nearly a year of being kidnapped for the second time in Yemen’s militia-held capital, Sana’a.
Masoud was kidnapped by the Houthi militia in October last year after leaving his home in front of the Attorney General's Office in the area of Madbah, north of the capital.
According to local source, the release was mediated by human rights organizations and social figures.
Radwan Masoud was abducted by the Houthi militia for the first time in early January 2015, and he remained in prison for months.
The president of the Yemeni Students Union at Sana'a University, which is Yemen’s largest government university, is an activist opposed to the Houthi militia.
The Houthi militia and forces loyal to ousted president are still holding more than 4,000 of their opponents, including activists, journalists, media workers, politicians and military commanders in areas they have seized for more than two years.
