Employees at the media institutions of Yemen’s exiled government in Riyad have recently announced their intention to be on an open strike starting June 20 after they have not been paid for five months.
The living conditions have worsened so significantly in the recent period that our dignity has been affected while the government hasn’t moved a finger, said employees at Riyadh-based pro-government media institutions.
The media workers emphasized in a statement that many promises have been made by the government to offer a radical solution to the problem of the salaries that were previously paid by the Saudi Ministry of Culture, adding that nothing has been done in this regard.
“Yemeni Minister of Information has 19 deputy ministers and advisors who are paid in dollars for doing nothing,” the statement added.
The statement stressed that the amount of salaries being paid monthly to this small group exceeds the total amount 90 employees, who are living in a state of distress and destitution, should receive.
“This is a flagrant disregard for our humanity and dignity,’ they asserted.
The Saudi government used to pay staff salaries of all media institutions loyal to the government of legitimate president Hadi since they were launched in Saudi Arabia. The Yemeni government, however, has done nothing to solve this problem since Saudis stopped paying at the beginning of this year.
