Ar Abducted Journalists transferred to criminal court, WJWC voices concerns
Women Journalists Without Chains (WJWC) voices deep concern after ten Yemeni journalists abducted by the Houthi militia were transferred to the Specialized Criminal Court in Yemen’s militia-held capital Sana’a on Wednesday in preparation for their trial.
While expressing full solidarity with the ten journalists, namely Abd al-Khaliq Emran, Akram al-Walaidi, Tawfiq al-Mansouri, Hisham al-Yusufi, Hisham Tarmoum, Haitham al-Shehab, Hasan Annab, Essam Balghaith, Salah al-Qaidi and Harith Hamid, WJWC affirms that any verdict against them would be null and avoid.
The Yemeni human rights defender also condemns the militias for their hostile approach to journalists and media professionals, pointing out that these militias have not only imprisoned them and practiced the worst forms of torture against them, but also bring them to unfair trials.
Moreover, the organization notes that the Special Criminal Court had sentenced the kidnapped journalist, Yahya Abdulraqeep al-Jubaihi, to death on trumped-up charges in mid-April.
What has been done today is a kind of terrorism brutally used by the militia against detained journalists, says Women Journalists Without Chains.
WJWC reiterates the call for the quick release of all journalists who are being held captive in militia prisons.
Women Journalists Without Chains calls on all human rights organizations, especially the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) to exert pressure on the militias to release the detained journalists.
