WJWC condemns threats and accusations against journalist Hanan Nasser

Women Journalists Without Chains (WJWC) condemns the threats of death and slaughter and accusations of infidelity and atheism against the female journalist Hanan Nasser by an unknown person who set a deadline for her repentance because she has been following up the cause of the assassinated activist Amjad Mohammed Abdulrahman who was accused of atheism.

WJWC also denounces the threats and accusations received by journalist Hanan Nasser, as well as the threats against journalists and human rights activists over the past few days, which has serious implications for the freedom of opinion and expression in Yemen.

Journalists now face serious threats to their lives, and therefore are liable to retaliation by all parties to the conflict, most notably by the Houthi, Saleh and terrorist groups that have committed different forms of grave violations, including murder, torture, arrest, abduction and assault, against journalists and media workers.

Women Journalists Without Chains warns of threats to women journalists who have been subjected to murder and are accused of infidelity and atheism, as such accusations represent a dangerous trend especially since they have dramatically increased against male and female journalists. Accordingly, the organization calls on the legitimate government and security authorities in the province of Aden to investigate the incident and provide Hanan Nasser and her family with protection.

The organization also calls on all civil and human rights organizations to condemn such acts, which have become a threat to the lives of journalists and media professionals.
