The newspaper’s editor-in-chief, Wael Sharaha, has been threatened with liquidation and verbally assaulted by the Ministry of Health’s undersecretary for the therapeutic medicine sector in Yemen’s militia-held capital, Sanaa, reports Yemeni Journalists Syndicate (YJS).
The affiliate of IFJ has condemned the incident, urging a speedy investigation into it and to provide full protection to the colleague and his family.
The pro-Houthi official, YJS adds, is fully responsible for any risks or harm Sharaha might face.
The press union, which reported that it has received a press release from Akhbar al-Hawadith newspaper about this violation, has renewed its demand to stop intimidating and harassing journalists.
