The Sana’a-based association of abductees’ mothers on Monday held a protest in front of the United Nations Office in the militia-held capital, Sana'a, in conjunction with the visit of UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, demanding the release of their sons kidnapped by the militias of Houthis and ousted president.
In a statement directed to the UN envoy Ismail Ould Cheikh, the association urged to primarily deal with the cause of their abducted and forcibly hidden relatives as a humanitarian issue, unconditionally expedite their release and hold the kidnappers accountable.
“For the second year in a row, thousands of our kidnapped and forcibly hidden sons are being held behind bars by the putschists for no legal justification, not to mention being abducted and forcibly disappeared without justification,” the association pointed out.
The abductees’ mothers reported that more than seventy abductees have been tortured to death inside the militia-run prisons located in different parts of Yemen, emphasizing that “the hearts of mothers” no longer bear empty promises made every time to release their sons.
It noted that the issue of abductees and the forcibly disappeared has remained for two years without any international or humanitarian attention paid to it, a matter that has led to no solution and tempting the Iran-backed armed group to continue its systematic torture and abduction against the innocents.
