Sana’a-based association of abductees’ mothers today mounted a social media campaign to highlight the great suffering of abductees and those forcibly disappeared in jails and detention centers under control of the Houthi militia and forces loyal to ousted president Ali Abdullah Saleh.
“As the world’s women are living the joy to celebrate International Women's Day in honor of them, thousands of Yemen’s mothers live in sadness and constant worry over their kidnapped sons being held captive behind bars and in prisons of the armed militia without legal justification or charges against them,” said the association in a statement.
“The militias have not only abducted thousands of our sons without reason, but also they have tortured some of them to death. 71 abductees have been killed so far. In addition, there are dozens of the disappeared who and we know nothing about or where they are held,” added the mothers.
The Association explained that the online campaign launched on social media will continue until March 21 in order to deliver the voices of mothers to the world, which should listen to their pain and have an idea about suffering of their sons in prisons of militias.
