While condemning continued targeting of journalists, WJWC expresses deep sorrow for killing of photojournalist Al Zubairi

Women Journalists Without Chains (WJWC) has said it was deeply saddened to learn that Taiz News Network’s photojournalist, Awab Al Zubairi, had been killed on Friday in an explosion of a residential building booby-trapped by the militia of Iran-backed Houthis allied with ousted president Ali Abdullah Saleh in a neighborhood, east of Taiz province.

While condemning the continued targeting of journalists, WJWC has held the Houthi militia and Saleh fully responsible for the killing of Al Zubairi as well as attempted murders against a number of correspondents of some satellite channels in Taiz while covering ongoing battlefields in the city and its countryside during the past few days.

The organization has called upon TV-channels and different media outlets to provide all means of safety for their field correspondents covering events in the conflict zones as a precautionary measure.

It has also urged all human rights and civic organizations, mainly the United Nations, to condemn such serious violations against journalists and media workers and exert pressure on the Houthi militia and ousted president to stop targeting journalists.

WJWC has expressed sincere condolences and sympathy to the family of Awab Al Zubairi and all his fellow journalists, beseeching Almighty Allah to grant the soul of the deceased eternal rest and bestow mercy upon him.
