Association of Abductees’ Mothers Denounces Mistreatment of Prisoners in the Militia’s Prisons
Association of Abductees’ Mothers carried out today a protest in front of United Nations headquarters in Yemen’s militia-held capital, Sanaa, in order to denounce the Iran-backed Houthi militia for mistreatment of their sons in prisons.
According to a statement released by the association, prisoners at the Political Security Prison have been put in chains and some houses have been converted into secret detentions where detainees are tortured.
The statement pointed out that hundreds of abductees are still kept in prisons where they are subjected to severe torture and starvation by the Houthi militia allied with ousted president Ali Abdullah Saleh.
Concerning external solidarity, the association expressed in its statement surprise at absence of any attention to Yemeni abductees whose unresolved issue has become part of political trade-offs.
To complicate matters further, as stated in the statement, the concerned mothers saw chains fastened to their sons’ legs at the Political Security Prison in Sana’a a month ago, which clearly reflects irresponsible behaviours of the Houthis.
The statement indicates that relatives and families of the abductees in the absence of breadwinners are living difficult living conditions, especially after the country-controlled militias rejected to pay the salaries of state employees, which has made matters worse.
Finally, the association appealed to all those of conscience to stand up for its just cause and support to release all abductees and detainees.
